Professor Ahmed Baita Garko is a distinguished figure in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology, known for his extensive contributions to academia, research, and industry. With a career spanning over two decades, he has established himself as a leading authority in his domain.

Born on January 2nd, 1973, in Garko town of Garko Local Government Area, Kano State, Nigeria, Professor Garko’s journey to academic excellence began with a strong foundation in education. He attended Garko Central Primary School, Government Senior Secondary Grammar School Garko, and Science Secondary School Dawakin Tofa for his primary and secondary education. His thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at renowned institutions.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, graduating with Second Class Upper Division in 1998. His pursuit of knowledge continued as he earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Bayero University, Kano, in 2008, where he distinguished himself as the Best M.Sc. Computer Science student with a CGPA of 4.88 out of 5.00. His academic journey culminated in the attainment of a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, completed within a remarkable three-year timeframe from 2010 to 2012.

Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Garko seamlessly blended his academic prowess with practical experience. He served as a System Analyst/Programmer at the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (Nitel) from 2001 to 2005, where he played a pivotal role as the pioneer Mediation Manager, responsible for meter readings and call detail records for billing purposes across Nitel’s national network.

In 2005, Professor Garko transitioned to the academic realm, joining the Kano University of Science & Technology (KUST), Wudil, as a Graduate Assistant. During his tenure at KUST, he assumed various roles, including Departmental Examinations Officer, Deputy Faculty Examinations Officer, Faculty Examinations Officer, Head of Unit, Head of Computer Science Department, Pioneer Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, and Deputy Director of Management Information Systems (MIS). His impact extended to serving on numerous university committees and task forces, demonstrating his commitment to institutional growth.

In March 2013, Professor Garko embarked on a new chapter of his academic journey by joining the Federal University Dutse (FUD) as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science. He was appointed as the pioneering Head of Computer Science Department, and under his leadership, the department flourished. Noteworthy accomplishments include establishing and equipping computer laboratories, securing additional facilities for the department, and significantly expanding the department’s academic staff.

Professor Garko’s exceptional dedication to academia extended to his role as the pioneer Editor-in-chief of the Dutse Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences (DUJOPAS), which achieved widespread recognition and indexing by African Journals Online (AJOL).

In the realm of information technology, Professor Garko made significant strides as the Pioneer Director of the University Computer Centre at FUD. His achievements included developing a comprehensive ICT policy for the university, establishing CBT centers for examinations, and enhancing the university’s digital presence through website development and portal management.

As a committed educator, Professor Garko has supervised numerous undergraduate projects and M.Sc. Computer Science and Information Technology students’ dissertations. He has also served as an external examiner for M.Sc. and Ph.D. Computer Science dissertations/theses at various institutions across Nigeria and South Africa.

Professor Ahmed Baita Garko’s scholarly pursuits have resulted in the publication of over 60 academic articles in reputable national and international journals, proceedings, books, and book chapters. His research interests encompass Artificial Intelligence, with a specialization in Agent Technology, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, and Human-Computer Interaction.

Beyond his academic endeavors, Professor Garko is an active member of professional associations, including the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), and the International Association of Engineers and Computer Scientists (IAENG).
